Day Seventeen: Our Residents Grow Food and Flowers!

Twenty Days of Giving in Northern New England

Did you know many of our programs have

flower and vegetable gardens?

Last year, the Maine Coastal ReEntry Center in Belfast grew enough vegetables to feed themselves and other community groups in Belfast...more than 26,000 pounds! And the gardens at Fay Garman House on Peaks Island are some of the prettiest gardens around. Neighborhood residents often comment on what a nice welcome Fay Garman House gives to Peaks Island visitors.

Most of our properties have gardens that are grown and tended by folks who live in the programs as well as community and corporate volunteers. We are starting new raised bed vegetable gardens in Belfast and would like to start them at our other senior houses. With your help, we can buy the materials, soil and seeds to grow food all over Northern New England!
