Congressman Returns to Cabin in the Woods

Congressman Jared Golden returns to visit veterans at Cabin in the Woods on Veteran’s Day

November 11, 2020 – Chelsea, Maine. Volunteers of America Northern New England welcomed Congressman Jared Golden (D-Maine) to Cabin in the Woods on Veteran’s Day. This was a return visit for the Congressman who has been a strong proponent of the Cabin in the Woods since the start. “No Maine veteran should have to experience homelessness. Cabin in the Woods and other programs across our state are working hard to make that future a reality,” said Congressman Golden. “It was my honor to spend Veterans Day with my fellow veterans at Cabin in the Woods, thank them for their service to our nation, and thank the staff for the work they do every day.” During his last visit, the Congressman presented a United State flag that has been flown over the Capitol to Cabin in the Woods. Due to the pandemic, the flag ceremony that was supposed to take place in July was postponed to Veteran’s Day. The flag was raised with the help of Cub Scout Pack 39 from Liberty, Maine.

President and CEO of Volunteers of America Northern New England, Rich Hooks Wayman, was also in attendance for the flag ceremony. “We honor and give thanks to our U.S. service men and women who continue to sacrifice for this country and our liberties.” Said Hooks Wayman. “Volunteers of America remains dedicated to providing safe, affordable, and high quality housing for veterans and their families in Maine. Today’s visit by Congressman Jared Golden and the Liberty Cub Scouts provided a lot of positive energy and recognition to our veterans at Cabin in the Woods! It was a marvelous outpouring of community care and support that we hope all veterans feel today!”
