Ballington Booth's Thoughts

regarding service with Volunteers of America

"Resolve that your religion in the Volunteers of America and in your life shall be something more than ornamental and superficial; that it shall have a practical bearing upon your life and character in the future.

Show the wide difference between the art of theory and art of practice. Theory may exist in the mind and book. but practice and action are seen and felt.

Let your light so shine to that extent and consistency that other (people) may see your good works."

(his notes to be delivered to the incarcerated)
