Helping America's Most Vulnerable

Volunteers of America's Innovation for Impact

From the national press announcement: "VOA Innovation for Impact is a new nationwide pilot program, designed to create a roadmap for identifying challenges and opportunities and for tackling solutions. Our first Innovation Jam Session is in Chicago, October 12-15. It will help shape several innovation pilot ideas, with colleagues from local affiliates across the country working together. Teams will then develop the pilot concepts over the following four months. An innovative idea is anything that could make a difference across Volunteers of America – from a new product, to a whole new service area to an internal business process change."

Steven McDermott, Northern New England's Sawyer Street Behavioral Health Program Manager was chosen in a national competition to be part of a team working on a mobile health unit - which takes its inspiration from the Northern Louisiana model for rural veterans. Their goal is to make a "van in a box" that could be used by any affiliate to work with the populations that makes sense for them.

Here he is (far right) with his teammates in Chicago taking a brief break from the conference.
