Compensation:                $13.00 per hour with Performance Bonus of $300 after 3 months and $300 after 6 months of employment. Excellent benefits for full-time positions.

Job Description:

Volunteers of America is hiring 1:1 RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR for our Bangor area program.

This transitional program is intended to meet the needs of individuals who have not been able to experience success living in the community in the past.  Staff provide support to individuals with mental illness in an individual apartment setting. Support is provided 1:1, 24/7. Staff and clients work within a therapeutic environment that fosters increased independence, enhanced coping skills, and strengthens the overall well-being of the clients. 

Duties include assisting clients with daily social and living skills, such as basic hygiene and housekeeping; ensuring that residents are taking their medication, plan community outings and appointments, and escort residents to them. Other duties include but are not limited to keeping daily records of residents' activities, planning menus, grocery shopping, ordering supplies, answering phone and so on. Staff is required to attend bi-weekly staff meetings to collaborate as a team and participate in monthly 1:1 supervision meetings. 

Experience and certifications are preferred, but not required - come with a willingness to learn and grow along with the people we serve and we will provide the additional training you need.

Job Requirements:

1)      High school diploma is required; 
2)      MHRT-1 and related current certifications are preferred; 
3)      Must be dependable, flexible, and able to work as a team player; 
4)      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required;
5)      Valid Maine driver’s license, good driving record and a reliable vehicle required;
6)      Good computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office.
