A Visit to Togus and Cabin in the Woods
Today we took a walk around the Togus campus,
the site where our new Cabin in the Woods Veterans Housing is being built. The woods were full of birds calling, the garden vegetables and flowers looked very happy with all the recent rain, and the grass everywhere was so green. It felt peaceful and vibrant.
A short walk down the Hallowell (South Gate) Road took us past the gardens and over to the Togus National Cemetery West. Old trees and well kept modest landscaping create a welcoming and respectful place to pause and reflect.
Another short walk toward the Togus facilities took us past a view to the main part of the campus and then we turned onto the North Gate Road to visit the Togus National Cemetery East.
It was a perfect morning for a walk. Several people on bicycles rode past and waved, and a few others were walking quietly around the cemeteries, reading headstones with reverence.
Cabin in the Woods will bring permanent housing for Veterans and their families, close to services and in a peaceful setting. Learn more at www.voanne.org/cabin-in-the-woods
