Bringing the joy of reading to thousands of children

Volunteers of America Northern New England, Scholastic Inc., Bisson Moving and Storage, Verizon and a variety of community organizations and volunteers have teamed up to distribute thousands of free books to children across Maine. 

"This program has become very popular and is a wonderful partnership," said June Koegel, President and CEO of Volunteers of American Northern New England.  "We have significantly increased the number of books that we are giving away, and we are truly grateful to Scholastic for providing this wonderful gift of reading to children.  It would also not be possible without the support of our valued community partners.  The joy and the thousands of smiles we see as young readers receive their free books make this a very rewarding program for everyone involved," Koegel said.
