Save the Date: National Press Club Focuses on Veterans' Issues

On Tuesday, May 8, Volunteers of America will host public simulcasts in Maine of an important National Press Club panel discussion on “After the Uniform: Serving the Veterans Who Served Us.”

The simulcasts will be held in two locations in Maine and feature panel discussions with local experts at each location. Both are open to the public and free of charge. The simulcast will be broadcast at the following locations:

  • University of Southern Maine, Wishcamper Center, Shepard Lee Community Room, Portland
  • Bangor Savings Bank G. Clifton Eames Learning Center in Bangor.
The National Press Club panel discussion will be held in Washington, DC. Panelists will include some of the nation’s top experts working to find solutions to the problems facing today’s returning veterans — finding peace of mind and a home of their own, receiving the support of their loved ones, earning a decent living, and more — at a time when the number of veterans is growing rapidly and budgets for social services are shrinking.

In Maine, the simulcasts will be followed by a panel discussion at each location. Other topics to be discussed will include veterans aging as they grapple with their issues, homelessness, post-traumatic stress disorder, and female veterans.

Please stay tuned for details about how to register for the event.
