3,000 Free Scholastic Books Given Away at Sea Dogs Game

All smiles with their new books

Recently, Volunteers of America Northern New England and Literacy Volunteers of Maine conducted a major book giveaway for Family Literacy Day with our partner the Portland Sea Dogs.  The result was some happy faces and a lot of reading taking place in Maine.  It is especially rewarding when a truly grateful and surprised child says, "You mean I can really keep this book!"

Volunteer with happy new book owners

3,000 FREE books were distributed to children in partnership with the Sea Dogs. These new children’s books were made possible through the generosity of Scholastic, Inc. through their Scholastic Book Grants Program (a national partnership between Scholastic, Inc. and Volunteers of America that donates more than 1 million free books to children each year).  Thank you!
